When you hire me for editorial consultation, I will provide you with my best advice and honest opinions about your work. However, the project is ultimately yours. I am here to help you move it forward; you determine what you want to do with my feedback.

When working at a developmental level, it is important for you to get my thinking on the work as I am reading it. I tend to put more feedback into my running commentary, whereas other editors may focus on providing general or categorical assessments and feedback after they’ve finished reading. My approach offers the writer real-time insights into how readers might react to their work. Even if I might raise an issue which the writer resolves later in the manuscript, the writer still receives insight into what sorts of questions may rise in readers’ minds as they are reading. This allows the writer to assess the effectiveness of their execution.

I am not interested in working on erotica. I am not an agent, and I do not provide marketing services. While I would be happy to read abstracts, cover letters, or queries for clarity, mechanics, and prose quality, I do not offer advice on strategies for publication and getting manuscripts accepted.
